In short
Cyber security monitoring services watch endpoints, identities, email, network devices and cloud logs for signs of attack and act on confirmed threats. With Forever Systems, the 24/7 watching is done by the vendor security operations centre in the service you choose, such as Sophos, Check Point or WatchGuard, while we handle setup, alert routing, escalation and regular reviews.

What continuous security monitoring means
Most organisations already collect plenty of security signals. Endpoint protection flags suspicious processes, Microsoft 365 records risky sign-ins, the firewall logs blocked connections and the email filter catches phishing. The problem is rarely a lack of alerts; it is that nobody is looking at them at 3am on a Sunday, or that the important one is buried among hundreds of routine ones.
Cyber security monitoring turns those signals into decisions. A monitoring service:
- Collects alerts and telemetry from the tools you choose to connect
- Correlates related events so one attack shows up as one incident
- Triages each incident to separate real threats from noise
- Investigates what happened, which systems are involved and how far it has spread
- Responds within limits you agree, or escalates to your contacts with clear next steps
Monitoring without response is just a more expensive way to collect alerts, which is why we favour services whose analysts can contain a threat within limits you agree, not only notify you.
What gets monitored
Coverage depends on the service and the tools you connect. This table shows the main sources and the kinds of threat each reveals.
| Source | What it shows | Examples of what is caught |
|---|---|---|
| Endpoints and servers | Processes, files, scripts and connections on each device | Ransomware, malicious scripts, attackers using legitimate admin tools |
| Identities | Sign-ins, privilege changes and session use in Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Active Directory or Okta | Account takeover, impossible travel, stolen session tokens |
| Phishing, malicious links and attachments, mailbox rule changes | Business email compromise, credential phishing | |
| Network and firewall | Traffic flows, blocked connections, VPN use | Lateral movement, command-and-control traffic, data leaving the network |
| Cloud and SaaS logs | Audit logs and configuration changes in cloud services | Risky configuration changes, unusual data access |
Long-term log collection and search, for investigations and compliance, is the job of a SIEM; see SIEM as a service. Identity monitoring is covered in more depth on managed ITDR.

Who does the monitoring
We are open about this because it matters. Forever Systems does not run its own 24/7 security operations centre. Round-the-clock monitoring comes from the vendor SOC behind the service you choose, for example:
| Service | Who watches |
|---|---|
| Sophos MDR and MDR Plus | Sophos's own security operations team |
| Check Point MDR, MDR 360 and MXDR 360 | Check Point analysts within CPR Act |
| Cisco XDR Premier | Cisco, delivering XDR Advantage as a managed service with Talos Incident Response |
| WatchGuard MDR | WatchGuard's SOC |
| Blackpoint (CompassOne) | Blackpoint's human-led, AI-assisted SOC |
| CrowdStrike Falcon Complete Next-Gen MDR | CrowdStrike's Falcon Complete team |
| SentinelOne Wayfinder MDR (formerly Vigilance) | SentinelOne analysts |
| Todyl MXDR | Todyl's analyst team |
| ThreatDown MDR | ThreatDown analysts |
The detail of each service is on our vendors page, and managed SOC services explains how a vendor SOC works.
What Forever Systems does
Our role is to make the monitoring fit your organisation and keep it working. Depending on what is agreed at quote, we can:
- Choose the service: match a vendor service to the tools you already own, your size and your risk
- Onboard sources: deploy agents and connect Microsoft 365, firewalls, email security and cloud services, then check data is flowing
- Route alerts: agree with you which incidents go to whom, how and when, and record it in a simple escalation runbook
- Set response authority: decide with you and the vendor which actions analysts may take without asking
- Act as escalation point: when the vendor's SOC raises an incident, we work with you on remediation and follow-up
- Review regularly: go through incidents, coverage gaps and recommendations with you at agreed intervals
We do not promise our own monitoring or response times; the vendor's service description sets out its commitments, and we take you through it before you sign. Where your own IT team wants to stay hands-on, see co-managed SOC.
Is cyber security monitoring the right fit for you?
We will check it against your systems and requirements and recommend the right option.
Why organisations ask for 24/7 monitoring
The push for continuous monitoring often comes from outside. Common drivers include:
- Cyber insurance: insurers' questionnaires can ask whether security alerts are monitored around the clock
- Supply chain requirements: NHS England's Cyber security charter for suppliers to the NHS asks signatories to commit to effective 24/7 cyber monitoring and logging of their critical IT infrastructure; see cyber security for NHS suppliers
- Regulation: the NIS Regulations, FCA operational resilience rules and UK GDPR breach reporting all depend on spotting incidents promptly; see UK cyber security compliance
- Standards: ISO/IEC 27001:2022 includes Annex A controls on logging and monitoring activities; see ISO 27001 logging and monitoring
- Customer due diligence: larger customers may ask suppliers how incidents are detected and handled
Questions to ask about any monitoring service
Monitoring services can look alike on paper. These questions show the differences that matter in practice:
- Which of my tools will the analysts actually see, and which need an extra integration or licence?
- What will the analysts do on their own, such as isolating a device or locking an account, and what needs my approval first?
- Is the service monitoring and response, or monitoring and notification only?
- Where is my data held, and for how long are logs and device data kept?
- Is incident response included if an attack gets through, or is it a separate service?
- What reports will I receive, and how often will the service be reviewed with me?
We answer these for each service we put forward, using the vendor's own service description. Our how to choose an MSSP guide goes further.
Monitoring beyond your own network
Some threats show up before an attacker ever reaches your systems. Staff credentials leaked in third-party breaches are a common route into Microsoft 365. Forever Group offers dark web monitoring to flag exposed credentials linked to your domains, and several identity services we supply include leaked credential checks.
Monitoring is one part of the picture. Good basics, such as MFA, patching and vulnerability management, reduce how often the SOC has to act, and an incident response retainer lines up expert help for the serious cases. Pricing depends on the service, the sources connected and log retention, so ask us for a quote and contact us.
How Forever Systems helps with managed security
We do not run our own security operations centre. The round-the-clock monitoring, investigation and response come from managed detection and response services that established security vendors already run at scale. Our part is choosing the right one for you, setting it up properly and staying involved.
- Independent recommendation: we supply several vendor MDR, XDR and SIEM services, including Sophos MDR, Check Point MDR and Cisco XDR, so we can suggest the one that fits the tools you already own
- Setup and onboarding: we can deploy agents, connect integrations such as Microsoft 365 and work with the vendor through tuning
- Clear responsibilities: escalation contacts, response permissions and who does what are agreed with you in writing and confirmed at quote
- Ongoing management: we help with policy changes, exclusions, renewals and regular service reviews
- Wider security too: security awareness training, Cyber Essentials and cloud security advice
We work with businesses, schools, charities and public sector organisations across the UK.
Frequently asked questions
What is cyber security monitoring?
Cyber security monitoring is the continuous collection and analysis of security alerts and logs from endpoints, identities, email, network devices and cloud services, so attacks are spotted and acted on quickly. A managed service adds analysts who investigate and respond.
Do you provide 24/7 security monitoring?
The 24/7 monitoring comes from the vendor security operations centre in the service you choose, such as Sophos MDR, Check Point MDR or WatchGuard MDR. Forever Systems sets the service up, routes alerts, acts as your escalation point and reviews the service with you.
What is the difference between security monitoring and a SIEM?
A SIEM is a tool that collects, stores and searches logs and raises detections. Security monitoring is the service of people watching and acting on those detections. Many monitoring services use a SIEM behind the scenes.
What does the NHS supplier charter say about monitoring?
NHS England's Cyber security charter for suppliers to the NHS includes a commitment to effective 24/7 cyber monitoring and logging of critical IT infrastructure. Signing the charter is a statement of intent rather than a contractual commitment.
How much do cyber security monitoring services cost?
It depends on the service, the number of users and devices, the data sources connected, log retention and whether incident response is included. Ask us for a quote.
